It was amazing to wear this jacket that women from all over the country had been in. Women that I admire for the strength, determination and tenacity.
I am not, by nature, a Fit Mom. I have to struggle every day with the will to get out the door and do what I need to do to make myself as healthy as possible. I was never a fit kid when I was growing up. While I played sports, I did not excel at them or even apply myself all that much. At the first sign of pain or stepping out of my comfort zone, I stopped.
I still struggle with pushing my limits and stepping outside of my comfort zone, but I have a new set of cheerleaders that make it possible for me to keep on keeping on. Every time I leave to workout, my kids ask me what I’m going to do that day. They tell me to be careful, have fun, and good luck. When I get home, they are the first to ask how my workout went. They bring me towels, fill up my water bottle, give me backrubs, tell me how awesome I’m doing. They lift me up when I have trouble lifting myself up. Now, they imitate my husband and I. They pretend they are running races, they do abdominal workouts with my husband, they stretch with us, they push themselves.
Currently, I am working to complete the Hundred Push Ups challenge. Each time I complete a set of push ups, the kids are there to support me and tell me how great I am doing. As they get older, I hope that I am able to support them in the same way they have supported me.
