Our Friend Renee gets another visit from the BornFit Traveling Shirt!

by BFit! on August 17, 2010

Renee Posing in the Traveling Elyse Jacket

I can’t believe that I’ve been the recipient of a traveling shirt twice, twice! They say the third time is the charm and I wonder if the third shirt will head my way? This is purely coincidence. I’ve documented my journey to healthy living on my blog, Facebook, twitter, Flickr and Youtube. Some folks followed me in one or all of these places but of course people miss things. My friend passed the jacket to me and I was elated. She wrote all sorts of words of encouragement on the envelope that moved me.  You see, since the last traveling shirt visit to my home I’ve been injured. But I’ve also run 2 5ks and am now gearing up to run the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in October! In usual fashion I couldn’t just challenge myself physically, I am also raising funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society!

In the meantime, I’ve strained a muscle in my hip and rather than listening to my body I continued training for my races. Eventually my body said NO!  And for the majority of the summer I’ve been seeing doctors, physical therapists, resting and taking anti-inflammatories and pain medications. The one thing I can do is yoga and I’ve been practicing so that I can both strengthen and stretch out my muscles.

I’m happy to report that I’ve started training for my half-marathon again. I’m taking things fairly slowly, am listening to my body and most importantly I am resting! I’ve also managed to just about meet my fund raising goal of $4000 and in October I will be in San Francisco running (and walking) the Nike Women’s Half Marathon. Did I mention that firefighters in tuxes will be waiting for me (and all the other runners) with silver platters filled with Tiffany boxes? I’m running for a great cause and receiving a wonderful gift at the end. What more can a girl ask for?

I remain a BornFit woman but I need you to remember – stay active but also listen to your body! I’ve overcome my obstacle by giving my body what it needs, rest. And with proper rest I am going to complete my goal of running the Nike Women’s  Half Marathon!
