I am still on my journey to become a Fit Mom. I like to consider myself a work-in-progress. One of my biggest obstacles that I face is losing this extra weight that seems to want to cling to my body and never let go. The scale is finally starting to inch down at a turtle’s pace and I can tell that since I’ve begun my 1/2 marathon training, my muscles are becoming more developed and defined. The other major challenge in my life is that I am a mother of four with a husband who works out-of-town for weeks to months at a time. It is so hard to find time for myself and some days I am just plain exhausted and don’t feel like working out. Once I get in that negative state of mind, it completely affects the rest of my day and those around me.
I have come to the realization that working out is not only good for my body, it’s good for my soul.
As editor of The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans, I aim to support and inspire our community, when in reality, I think it is the opposite that happens. I am truly so lucky to have so many wonderful, inspirational people in my life. I love what our members are accomplishing and watching them learn what their bodies are capable of and seeing them succeed as they aim for bigger and better things. I couldn’t be more proud!
I have so many charities that I love and support. My favorite right now, of course, is The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I am a part of Team Shrinking Jeans and we are training for the San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll 1/2 marathon through Team in Training and raising money for The LLS during this time. As of this very moment, Team Shrinking Jeans has raised over $35,500! Unbelievable! I have recently come across the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund and hope to help the cause, as one of my favorite people in the world was diagnosed with ovarian cancer over 10 years ago and is still battling this nasty disease. The mission of the OCRF is to fund research to find a method of early detection and ultimately a cure for ovarian cancer.
