Motherhood of the Traveling Shirt Mom, Jennifer from North Carolina

by BFit! on June 2, 2010

I longed to be fit again. After the birth of my first daughter, I was right back in my size 5/6 pants by the time she was 4 months old.

After I had my second daughter 21 months later, that was not the same story. I never did loose any of the weight I put on during that pregnancy. The weight struggles went on till my youngest daughter was 4 years old and I finally had enough. I knew the weight was not going to fall off by itself, so I needed to make a lifestyle change. I finally joined Weight Watchers and over the course of a year lost 55 pounds. You can see my story in pictures on my blog at One Moms World. I was so happy again, and felt like I had my self esteem back.

I have maintained over the last year and kicking it back in high gear to loose this last 20 to 25 pounds for good. Working full-time and going to college full-time was a lot of my plate and didn’t leave much room for exercise. After a hospital stay recently of 7 days with pancreatitis, it really got me to thinking. I need to quit putting so much on my plate and take care of my body. So this summer, is the summer of all about being a healthy family. We are going to be really active and my husband and I both want to lose 20 to 25 pounds so why not do it as a team?

My family inspires me and motivates me. I wanted to be a healthy role model to my girls so they will know how to push on with the healthy lifestyles when they are adults as well. Do not wait on others to get started, you have to want to do it yourself. That is what has got me this far and will continue to push me forward.

My charity that I would like to choose is the Make a Wish Foundation. I love hearing the stories of children that have went through the battle of their lives to be granted their wish. We all think we are having a bad day and then we hear a story of a child that is fighting for their life. It really puts life in perspective.

You are smart in teaching your family while they are young. Good luck to you and I hope you reach your goal. You are headed in the right direction. I would love to work for the Make a Wish Foundation. My grandson, Noah was granted a Wish when he was going thru the struggle with Epilepsy. His wish was to see polar bears at the zoo. They sent the whole family to San Diego Zoo in California. They are a great people!
