Tips to Balance Work and Fitness

by BFit! on August 20, 2010

Who wouldn’t want to replace their chair at work with an exercise ball and knock out a few sit-ups when no one is looking?  However, for a lot of us that is not an option, especially in a skirt.  The transition from college life into the professional world means no more ordering pizza at 2 a.m. while cramming for an exam, or sleeping until noon on a day off from class.  After staring at a computer screen for eight hours, your mind is in a daze and you are ready for a glass of wine and some R&R.  As a result, the desire to workout after an eight-hour day is simply not there at times.

So, just like you are in a routine with work, develop a routine with your workouts.  More importantly, determine a motivation system that fits you, and stick to it.

-    Reward yourself by grabbing a coffee before work after each early morning workout.

-     Buy that book you have been eyeing and limit yourself to reading it only when you are riding the bike at the gym.

-    Workout with a friend once a week so you can keep each other in check, and you will be less likely to bail out when you are tired.

Sometimes coming up with a “punishment” for yourself can work as a motivational tool as well.

-    If you do not follow through on your designated workout day, make yourself add an extra five minutes to your next run.

Once you discover what drives you to stick to your routine, you are able to withstand that little voice in your head that is coaxing you to the couch.  Although it may take time, gaining that extra energy boost is well worth the effort to live fit.  Watch out Jillian Michaels, you have got a run for your money.
